Wyevale East Nurseries, in conjunction with the Royal Horticultural Society, established a design award aimed at students in 2010. All applicants should be undertaking horticultural design courses from level 3 or equivalent courses through to Masters Degrees at the time of submission.
The aim is for the applicants to show a holistic and applied knowledge of all the design stages from the paper plan to the planning and project management of its implementation. A particular emphasis is placed upon plant selection and association alongside good design.
Wyevale East Nurseries are passionate about plants. We are a plant focused company and would love to see the applicants demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of new plant introductions and existing plant options. This is the reason behind giving the winning designers a free reign on the choice of plants with no budget restrictions on plants used. There is a budget of £5000.00 for construction, materials and labour.
Now in its third year, the Student Design & Build Award 2012 is a great opportunity to launch a career by showcasing your building and design skills to the public at the prestigious Hampton Court Flower Show in 2013. Entry can be by a group or individuals. Wyevale East Nurseries provide a budget of £5000.00 for construction materials. The supply of plants for the winning design has no limits!
The winning design for the 2010 Award, 'Wild in the City' designed by Charlotte Murrell achieved a Silver Gilt Medal - a fantastic achievement for a first time show garden. The winning design for the 2011 Award 'Coastal Drift' designed by Susan Willmott and Adele Ford was highly praised by the Award judges for plant choice and association and has been submitted to the Hampton Court Flower Show in 2012.
